Tips To Maintain Temporary Fence
Temporary fencing is always considered a rental item. Different than permanent fencing, it is the responsibility of the renter that rented the fence to maintain it. Read below for some helpful tips to care for your temporary fence.
- It’s that time of year, obnoxious vegetation is growing up around and through the chain link fabric. Pulling weeds out of the materials is impossible. In serveral cases, we are better off to simply dispose of the fence materials and charged the customer for damaged unusable materials. Contractors should spray and mow around the fence when it is installed. This will also improve visibility and discourage thieves from hiding in the weeds.
- Fence materials removed for must be accounted for and kept onsite. It may be convenient to move a couple panels to another site but costly. Rental companies do track the quantities installed and will bill you full retail price for any missing and damaged materials.
- Temporary panel stands are typically weighted with sand bags. Check periodically to make sure those sand bags and or blocks are still firmly placed to weight the stand down. Sand bags will burst open and blocks will occasionally slide off. Even with moderate winds, a weighted temporary fence panel installation will blow over. This would expose your site and also may cause considerable damage to parked cars and pedestrians.
- Don’t bury fence materials. Contractors will grade right up to and over temporary fencing. It is near impossible to pull-out these materials when buried. The material will most certainly need to be replaced as it does not stretch or spring back into its original shape.
While temporary fencing is installed on your job site, you are responsible for caring and maintaining.
